2. Kalpana (1948)
The only film to be written and directed by Uday Shankar. The film is a dance-drama and revolves around a young dancer’s struggle to set up a dance academy. It’s a slice-of-life film which borrows heavily from how Uday Shankar set up his own academy at Almora. He played the lead in the film along with his wife Amala Shankar. Padmini, one of the most acclaimed south Indian actresses, made her big screen debut in Kalpana.
