It’s Shajarur Kanta this Time

RBN Web Desk: The Byomkesh web-series is back with a new season and the story to be streamed this time is Shajarur Kanta. Anirban Bhattacharya and Subrat Dutta will reprise their roles as the popular fictional detective and his assistant Ajit respectively.

Ridhima Ghosh will reprise her role as Byomkesh’s wife Satyabati.

Byomkesh Bakshi is one of the most popular characters in Bengali fiction, created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay.

Shajarur Kanta was earlier adapted twice for the big screen, first in 1974 and later in 2015. Shyamal Ghoshal, who played the main antagonist in Satyajit Ray’s Byomkesh film Chiriyakhana in 1967, was cast as the detective in the 1974 film. It was directed by Manju Dey. Veteran actor Dhritiman Chatterjee played an older Byomkesh in director Saibal Mitra’s 2015 adaptation, while Pradip Mukherjee played Ajit.

Shailen Mukherjee, incidentally, played Ajit in both the 1967 and 1974 film.

Amrita Chattopadhyay, Joyjeet Banerjee, Raja Goswami, and Bhaskar Banerjee will play major roles in the third season of the web-series.

Shajarur Kanta will start streaming from 14 April.
