Uma to be Screened at St George
RBN Web Desk: Srijit Mukherji’s latest film Uma, inspired by Evan Leversage’s real-life battle with an inoperable brain tumour, is likely to be screened at the seven-year old boy’s hometown St George in Canada. The film released yesterday.
Speaking to the media recently in Kolkata, Evan’s mother Nicole Wellwood said, arrangements are being made to hold a special screening of Uma for the people of St George. There’s a park in the town which has a bench in memory of Evan. The bench overlooks the park and will be a fitting location to hold the screening. It’s like bringing Uma to the place where Evan is still present. It would be as if Evan is overlooking all the children present there, Nicole said, adding that the event will be a memorable occasion in her life.
Evan wanted to have one last Christmas, since doctors feared that he may not live until that time. In a remarkable act of solidarity, residents of St George organised Christmas for Evan on 24 October. The entire town was decorated Christmas-style. A company even volunteered to spread out snow in front of Evan’s house to forge the Christmas feeling.
Evan passed away on 8 December 2015 and was laid to rest two days later.
Uma has Sara Sengupta in the title role.
