Senior Actress Rita Koiral Dead

Kolkata: Popular film and TV actress Rita Koiral died this morning after battling liver cancer since August. She was rushed to a city hospital after her condition deteriorated today and was declared “brought dead” by the doctors.

Rita was earlier admitted to a private hospital and was brought back home after her health improved.

Rita Koiral was a prolific actress who was seen on the theatre and jatra stage as well. She was mostly seen in villainous roles in TV serials and films. In a career spanning nearly three decades, Rita had worked with some of the leading directors of the Bengali film industry, including Aparna Sen, Rituparno Ghosh, and Anjan Dutt.

Rita was last seen in the TV serial Rakhi Bandhan where she continued working despite failing health.

She was 58 and is survived by a daughter.
