RBN Web Desk: With love and brickbats flowing thick and fast in equal measure, Padmavati is bracing for fresh controversy every other day. In a latest development, the censor board has refused the makers to release the film on 1 December, on grounds that the application form in this regard was incomplete.

And amid all the debate surrounding the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, which has been billed as a magnum opus, Tollywood superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee has voiced his displeasure at the threats being issued to the director and Deepika Padukone who plays the title role.

Angry over the threat that Deepika’s ears and nose would be chopped off, like Shurpanakha in Ramayan, Prosenjit said, should this be allowed to happen, no artiste will ever want to work in any project which is based on history. None but the censor board has a final call on a film’s release. Why should a third party call all the shots, he questioned.

Several Bollywood stars including Salman Khan, Arshad Warsi, Jacqueline Fernandez and others, have supported the film and said that all artistes should have the right to creative freedom. Producer Ekta Kapoor too protested the moves to stop the release of Padmavati.

Earlier, the Rajput Karni Sena, had threatened to chop off Deepika’s nose and behead Bhansali. Though the director has since agreed to hold a special screening for the Sena before the film’s release, there seems to be no end to the controversy any time soon.
