No Hurry to Shoot Swapna Barman Biopic, Says Srijit
RBN Web Desk: Director Srijit Mukherji has said that he is in no hurry to shoot the biopic on Swapna Barman. The 23-year old athlete had won the heptathlon gold in the 2018 Asian Games at Jakarta. Sohini Sarkar has been roped in to play Swapna in her biopic.
Daughter of a rickshaw driver and a tea estate daily wage earner, Swapna braved poverty and a severe toothache to bag the Asian Games gold medal. Swapna’s mother started working after her father became bedridden following a stroke in 2013. The athlete could never afford the extra-wide training shoes that were required since she had six toes on both feet. She trained with regular shoes that caused her much pain.
Srijit recently told the media that he will start filming the biopic only when Sohini is completely prepared for the role. She is currently undergoing the workshop in this regard under the guidance of Swapna’s coach Subhash Sarkar. Srijit has also offered to arrange training sessions for Sohini at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) campus in Salt Lake.
