Mrinal Sen No More
Kolkata: Filmmaker Mrinal Sen, one of the torchbearers of the alternative cinema movement in India, passed away at around 10.30am today at his home in Padmapukur. He was 95 and was not keeping well for many years.
One of the most prominent directors in Indian cinema, Sen, along with his contemporaries Ritwik Ghatak and Satyajit Ray, was one of the greatest ambassadors of Indian cinema on the global stage. His films were known for their artistic depiction and social reality.
Mithun Chakraborty Hospitalised
The multiple-time National Award winning director worked with almost all leading actors of Indian cinema including Mithun Chakraborty, Smita Patil, Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Utpal Dutt, Soumitra Chatterjee, and others.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee expressed grief at the passing away of the filmmaker.

Sen’s films were a permanent feature at various leading international festivals including Cannes, Moscow, Karlovy Vary, Montreal, and Venice.
