Karan’s Family Hoping for Early Bail
RBN Web Desk: Karan Oberoi’s family is hoping for an early bail for the actor-singer, after he was remanded to a 14-day judicial custody by an Andheri court today, on charges of alleged rape and blackmailing. An astrologer and spiritual guru had brought the charges against him and filed a first information report (FIR) at the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai on 6 May. The 34-year old woman alleged that Karan had raped her on the pretext of marriage. He has been booked under sections 376 and 384 of the Indian Penal Code.
Karan’s legal counsel Dinesh Tiwari informed the media that the bail petition would be moved tomorrow. Chances of getting an early bail, Tiwari said, have increased after Karan was sent to judicial custody.
The actor’s family too is hopeful to secure an early bail for Karan. His sister Gurbani Oberoi, who was present in the court, said that she was happy with the way Tiwari has presented the case in court.
Karan has been a singer and actor for more than 25 years and has played major roles in several popular TV serials including ‘Swabhimaan’, ‘Saaya’, and ‘Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin’. He was also one of the lead vocalists in ‘A Band of Boys’.
Karan’s friends, meanwhile, have rallied supported behind him. Actress Pooja Bedi said that Karan was one of her best friends and among the most decent persons in the industry. A country can’t have laws to protect one sex hindering the liberty and rights of another sex. Being pro-women doesn’t mean that one has to be anti-men, she added.
