Writ Petition Filed Against Anupam Kher
RBN Web Desk: A writ petition has been filed at a court in Bihar against veteran actor Anupam Kher and several others for allegedly maligning the image of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his media advisor Sanjay Baru. Kher and Akshaye Khanna are playing Singh and Baru respectively in the upcoming film The Accidental Prime Minster, directed by Vijay Gutte.
Lawyer Sudhir Kumar Ojha moved the petition at the court of the chief judicial magistrate in Muazaffarpur yesterday. Both Kher and Khanna have been named in the petition. The court, admitting the case, has fixed 8 January for hearing.
Ojha, in his petition, said that the portrayal of Singh and Baru by the two actors hurt him and many others. That aside, the film has upset the former president of the Indian National Congress Sonia Gandhi, her daughter Priyanka Vadra, and the current Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Unprecedented Discipline Marks Mrinal Sen’s Final Journey
The Accidental Prime Minister is adapted from a book of the same name written by Baru, when he worked with Singh during the latter’s stint as the Indian premier from 2004 to 2014.
Earlier, the trailer of the film went missing from YouTube and reappeared only after the disgruntled 63-year old actor appealed to the video sharing site.
The film is slated to hit the theatres on 11 January.
