Two Arrested for Obscene Posts Against Nusrat Jahan

RBN Web Desk: Police has arrested two persons—Tanmoy Bala and Subhendu Chakraborty—for allegedly posting obscene content on social media against Nusrat Jahan. The popular Bengali film actress is contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Basirhat constituency in North 24 Parganas as a Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate.

Tanmoy was arrested from Gaighata while Subhendu was rounded up from Baduria.

TMC, on 12 March, announced the names of its candidates for the 42 parliamentary constituencies in West Bengal. Prominent film industry celebrities like Dev, Moon Moon Sen, Satabdi Roy, Mimi Chakraborty, and Nusrat are all set to contest the polls. While Dev, Moon Moon and Satabdi are sitting MPs, Mimi and Nusrat will be contesting the elections for the first time.

Police said, both Mimi and Nusrat have been subject to obscene and lewd messages on social media that have since gone viral. One such message claimed that Nusrat is the ‘girlfriend’ of Kader Khan, the main accused in the February 2012 Park Street rape case, and had helped him to flee to Dubai. Nusrat had ‘spent a night with Kader at a Mumbai hotel before she helped him escape,’ the post said.
