The Desperate Father Trends #2 on YouTube
RBN Web Desk: In perhaps the first of its kind instance ever since Tollywood films took the online route for prerelease promotion, the Uma official trailer which was launched on 28 April, has emerged as the second-most watched Bengali language video on YouTube. Uma, written and directed by Srijit Mukherji, tells the story of a terminally ill girl who wants to see Durga Puja before the usual time in September-October.
The film is based on the true story of St George, Ontario resident Evan Leversage.
Uma has an ensemble cast that includes Anjan Dutt, Anirban Bhattacharya, Rudranil Ghosh, Srabanti Chatterjee, Sayantika Banerjee, Neel Mukherjee, Babul Supriyo, Gargee Roychowdhury, Abhijit Guha, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Partha Sen, and others.
The real-life father-daughter duo of Jisshu and Sara Sengupta play the lead in the film. Sara makes her big screen debut in the title role as Uma. Jisshu plays the desperate father, and Anjan a ‘defeated filmmaker’, and together they bind a team to realise the girl’s dream.
According to Hindu mythology, Durga, the warrior goddess, comes down to earth every autumn, when she is worshipped over five days. Durga Puja is the most important festival in West Bengal and in other parts of India. Her visit to the earth has been used metaphorically in the film when Uma comes to Kolkata from abroad for one last Durga Puja. Uma, incidentally, is another name of the goddess.
Music for the film is composed by Anupam Roy, while Neel Dutt is in charge of the background score.
Uma releases this June.
