Agnidev Back with Gaheen Hriday

RBN Web Desk: Director Agnidev Chatterjee is back with Gaheen Hriday, his new film, based on a Suchitra Bhattacharya novel. He has roped in Rituparna Sengupta, Kaushik Sen, and Debshankar Haldar to play major roles in the film.

Rituparna had earlier worked with Agnidev in Charuulata 2011, 3 Kanya, Mrs Sen, and A Political Murder. She has also worked in Tere Aane Se and Jihad. The latter is reportedly in the post-production stage.

Interestingly, Gaheen Hriday has been shot in monochrome, unlike the digital colour productions that are largely a norm these days.

Rituparna plays Sohini in the film, married to the middle-class, quintessential gastritis-affected Bhaskar (Debshankar). She is unhappy with her marriage and dreams of settling down with her friend Anupam (Kaushik) who lives and works in Canada. Sohini is all set to inform Bhaskar about her decision when he is suddenly diagnosed with cerebral carcinogen. Whether Sohini leaves her husband or stays back, forms the crux of the story.

Agnidev recently told a leading Bengali daily that Bhattacharya had wanted Rituparna and Prosenjit Chatterjee to play the lead in the film. But Prosenjit could not spare time to hear the script because he was busy with other commitments, the director said, adding that it did not hamper the selection of the cast according to the story. In fact, Agnidev said, it has turned out for the better.

Gaheen Hriday will release on 18 May.
