Srijit May Direct Superhit Bengali TV Serial Sequel
RBN Web Desk: Director Srijit Mukherji may direct the sequel of a superhit Bengali TV serial which is being actively considered for some time now. If industry sources are to be believed, Srijit is one the names being thrown up to don the director’s hat for the next part of Gaaner Oparey.
Broadcast from June 2010 to April 2011, Gaaner Oparey became a runaway hit and was the first major break for several actors who went on to make a name in the industry, including Mimi Chakraborty, Arjun Chakrabarty, and Gaurav Chakrabarty. The serial was a runaway hit.
Gaaner Oparey was conceived and directed by Rituparno Ghosh and was bankrolled by actor Prosenjit Chatterjee’s production house. But Rituparno later quit the project over reported differences with the makers.

Srijit shared a warm relation with Rituparno and had borrowed the latter’s furniture for his debut film Autograph (2010). The Uma director also appeared in the brief role of a music company owner in Gaaner Oparey which was also his acting debut. Srijit had even cast Rituparno to play a director in his 2014 thriller Chotushkone. That, however, never materialised and the role was finally played by actor-director Parambrata Chatterjee.

According to sources, Anuja Chatterjee, who had written the script for Gaaner Oparey, is working on the script of the sequel.
Gaaner Oparey was loved by the audience since it was a welcome break from the typical boardroom-bedroom dramas that are a staple on Indian television.
