Shankar Mudi Stares at an Uncertain Future

RBN Web Desk: The release of Aniket Chattopadhyay-directed film Shankar Mudi, which has actor-director Kaushik Ganguly in the title role, is unlikely to happen any time soon. The film has been lying in the cans for close to two years now.

In fact, with its producer behind bars, doubts have now been raised whether the film will release at all.

Kaustav Roy, whose production company RP Techvision had bankrolled the film, was recently nabbed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his alleged involvement in a ₹515 crore bank loan fraud case.

Shankar Mudi was earlier rumoured to release on 13 April. In that case, it would have been a rare instance when two films from the same director, clashed at the box office. Aniket’s other film, Kabir, is also slated to open on the same date.

It has been learnt that some senior officials of RP Techvision tried to broker a deal with a major production and distribution house to release Shankar Mudi. But talks fell through as Kaustav’s signature is required on several papers in this regard, and the CBI has denied him to sign any document, until its investigation is complete.

Besides Kaushik, the film has Anjan Dutt, Saswata Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta, Rudranil Ghosh, Shantilal Mukherjee, and Biswanath Basu in major roles. It was shown at the Kolkata International Film Festival 2016 which was the only time that the audience in the city got to see the film.
