National Award Winning Film in Release Muddle
RBN Web Desk: Nagarkirtan, the National Award winning film from director Kaushik Ganguly, is in a release muddle. The film has Riddhi Sen and Ritwick Chakraborty in lead roles.
Joy B Ganguly, one of the producers of the film, had moved the Alipore court alleging that his name and company logo were removed from Nagarkirtan’s pre-release promotions. The court, in an order dated 6 February, stalled the release of the film in any format. Co-producers Nispal Singh and Sani Ghosh Ray later told the media that they are trying to resolve the matter amicably.

Joy, however, issued a statement on 10 February where he said that there was a lot of misunderstanding and miscommunication that lead to the confusion over the film’s release. All issues have now been resolved, Joy claimed, adding that the film will release on 15 February as scheduled. He even apologised for any misconception in this regard.
But it has now been learnt that all efforts for an amicable settlement have proved futile and the film will not release tomorrow.

A senior official of a leading multiplex chain told RBN, “The producers have not informed us when they want to release the film. It’s certainly not releasing tomorrow. We have no clue when the film will hit the theatres.”
Nagarkirtan bagged four National Film Awards in 2017, including best actor (Sen), best costume design (Gobinda Mandal), and best makeup (Ram Rajak). The film also won a special jury award for Kaushik Ganguly.
