Byomkesh Film Series to End?
RBN Web Desk: Two more films and it could be curtains for the Byomkesh film series being directed by Arindam Sil. Based on the stories written by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, Byomkesh Bakshi is one of the most popular detectives in Bengali fiction.
If sources are to be believed, Arindam is unlikely to make any further Byomkesh films, after the ones based on Rokter Daag and Durgo Rahasya. He is expected to begin the shooting of Byomkesh Gotro, based on Rokter Daag, in June this year.
Crowdfunded Play to Have Anjan Dutt as Vincet van Gogh
The Bengali film rights of Durgo Rahasya was with Anjan Dutt, who had successfully revived Byomkesh on the big screen in 2010. He recently handed over the rights to Arindam, who had made Har Har Byomkesh (2015) and Byomkesh Pawrbo (2016), with actor Abir Chatterjee in the title role. Both films were box office hits.
It is being widely believed that after the success of the Byomkesh web-series which has Anirban Bhattacharya as the fictional sleuth, the production house is interested to carry on the franchise only on the on-demand digital entertainment format. Byomkesh stories for the big screen, henceforth, would be adapted and set in contemporary times and Bidaay Byomkesh, directed by Debaloy Bhattacharya, is likely to be the first film in this regard.
