Bibhutibhushan Mukhopadhyay’s Bibaho Abhijan Returns on the Small Screen

RBN Web Desk: Bibaho Abhijan, the cult Bengali TV series based on the stories written by popular novelist Bibhutibhushan Mukhopadhyay, is all set to return on the small screen, albeit in a new adaptation. This time, the series will be aired on Aakash Aath, under the Ek Maasher Galpo programme.

First broadcast in the early nineties on state-run television channel Doordarshan, Bibaho Abhijan assumed unmatched popularity and made the characters Gonsha, Trilochan, Rajen, Gorachand, Ghotna, and K Gupta household names. Several actors who appeared in the series, like Shankar Chakraborty, Subhasish Mukhopadhyay, Jay Badlani, and Rahul Barman, later went on to play major roles in TV and films.

6 Top TV Stars Who Earn More than Bollywood Actors

The new Bibaho Abhijan on Aakash Aath will be directed by Manish Ghosh. The series is based on Mukhopadhyay’s book Barjatri O Bashor that comprises around 12-13 short stories. Ghosh has chosen five stories—Barjatri, Paka Dekha, Gharjamai, Bar O Nafar, and Putirani—for the month-long broadcast.

The series, Ghosh told the media, will begin with the preparations for Trilochan’s marriage and the hilarious incidents that follow. After the marriage, the six friends meet again and plan to marry off Gonsha. All the stories are connected to each other and the series will closely follow Mukhopadhyay’s text. No changes have been made in the new adaption, Ghosh added.
