RBN Web Desk: Swastika Mukherjee is likely to be seen in her third film with director Srijit Mukherji after Mishawr Rawhoshyo (2013) and Jaatishwar (2014). If industry sources are to be believed, Srijit has offered Swastika the role of Karabi Guha in his adaptation of author Mani Shankar Mukhopadhyay’s novel Chowringhee.
Jaya Ahsan, earlier, was slated to play the role when Srijit announced the film on 29 January. But according to reports, since Jaya is almost locked to play airhostess Sujata Mitra in the new adaptation, Srijit has zeroed in on Swastika to play the high society housekeeper-escort.
Swastika had returned a stellar performance in Jaatishwar. The film emerged the winner in four categories in the 61st National Film Awards.
Jaya had earlier worked with Srijit in Rajkahini (2015). She will also be seen in the director’s upcoming film Ek Je Chhilo Raja.
Prosenjit Chatterjee has been cast as the iconic Satyasundar (Sata) Bose, while Sankar will be played by Abir Chatterjee. Mamata Shankar has been roped in to play the role of socialite Mrs Pakrashi. Her son Anindya’s role will be played by Jisshu Sengupta. Actor-director Anjan Dutt has been cast in the role of Marco Polo, the owner of Shahjahan hotel.
Supriya Devi had played Karabi Guha, while Anjana Bhowmick was cast as Sujata Mitra, in director Pinaki Mukherjee’s adaptation of the same novel in the 1968 film which is widely considered a cult classic by the Bengali audience.
The pre-production of Chowringhee would start next month and the film is likely to go on floors later this year.
Chowringhee will also be Srijit’s first home production.
