Srijit to Make a Film on Gumnami Baba
RBN Web Desk: Director Srijit Mukherji is all set to make a film on Gumnami Baba, the Faizabad ascetic, believed by many to be the legendary freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose. Subhas, more popularly known as Netaji in India, reportedly died in a plane crash at Taihoku on 18 August 1945. Leading historians and government-appointed commissions have since debunked the claims of his death.
Srijit recently completed the shooting of his next film Shahjahan Regency, based on author Mani Shankar Mukherjee’s bestselling novel Chowringhee. The film will release this winter.

Gumnami Baba appeared several years after Netaji’s reported death and was also known as Bhagwanji among his followers. The man looked strikingly similar to Netaji and had several traits that gave rise to a widespread belief that he was the hugely popular national leader. His real identity, however, is still shrouded in mystery.
