Padmavati Trailer: Ranveer Singh Steals the Show

RBN Web Desk:  The trailer of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest film, Padmavati, released on YouTube today, and from the first look, it seems to have no less grandeur than his earlier ventures. The Padmavati trailer garnered more than three million views on YouTube within a few hours of its release.

The three-minute Padmavati trailer, is a riot of colours, right from the bright red dresses of Rajputana women to the greyish tents of Alauddin Khilji, the second and most powerful ruler of the Khilji dynasty.

The trailer offers a snatch of what to expect in the film, with long shots of retinues, forts, caravans and battles. Drone cameras have been extensively used in the film to build the big-screen effect.

Some of the VFX, like the dust from the horses’ hooves in the battle scenes, look a tad lacking in some places. Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini also looks overdressed in some scenes. But the audience are unlikely to mind those given the grandiose the film manages to forge.

Deepika and Shahid Kapoor as Rawal Ratan Singh, in their respective roles look convincing. Shahid, however, looks younger than Deepika in some frames.

But it’s Ranveer Singh as the diabolical Alauddin Khilji who grabs all the attention in the Padmavati trailer. He looks menacing from every angle. He speaks with his eyes and there’s cruelty in every look. Ranveer gets the best entry in the trailer and is expected to have the same in the film. With a heavy Khal Drogo vibe, he looks straight out of the Game of Thrones. But that’s all about it.

The colour correction of the Padmavati trailer is spot on. The scenes of Chittor get a subdued red tint to lend the happiness and prosperity treatment, while Khilji’s world is made of grey, black and sepia.

Padmavati releases on 1 December.
