Kaushik Sen, Jisshu Sengupta in Aparna Sen’s Ghare Baire Adaptation

Kolkata: Kaushik Sen and Jisshu Sengupta are all set to appear in the lead in director Aparna Sen’s adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s 1916 novel Ghare Baire. The production house bankrolling the project had announced the film in January.

Sources in the industry told RBN, Kaushik will be seen as Nikhilesh, while Jisshu has been cast as Sandip in the film. The roles were played by Victor Banerjee and Soumitra Chatterjee respectively in auteur Satyajit Ray’s adaptation of the same novel in 1984.

Tuhina Das will be playing Bimala, the central character in the film. She had earlier appeared in director Arindam Sil’s Aschhe Abar Shabor which released earlier this year.

Bimala was played by Swatilekha Sengupta in Ray’s film.

Sen has already started the acting workshop for the project and the film is expected to go on the floors soon. The Arshinagar director had earlier said, she will adapt the story to the present day, since the plot of Ghare Baire is now more relevant than earlier.
