Jisshu Not Playing Title Role in Sourav Biopic
RBN Web Desk: Popular Bengali actor Jisshu Sengupta, who recently expressed his interest to play the title role if a biopic is ever made on Sourav Ganguly, has been ruled out of consideration by the production house. Several leading Bollywood actors are now being considered for the role.
According to industry sources, since the Sourav biopic will be made in Hindi, an actor who has a pan-India appeal will be more acceptable to the audience. The names that are now doing the rounds include Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Ranveer Singh, Rajkummar Rao, and even Shah Rukh Khan. That aside, the production team is also contemplating casting a newcomer in the title role, sources added.

However, both Ranbir and Ranveer are unlikely to play Sourav in the biopic on the former India captain. Ranbir is already playing the title role in Sanju, the biopic on Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, which opens on 29 June. He is unlikely to play the lead in another biopic. Ranveer, meanwhile, is playing the lead in a biopic on India’s 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev. The film will go on the floors in mid-2018 and will release on 9 April 2019.

Many in the Bengali film industry believe that Jisshu would have been a perfect choice for the role since he had played for Bengal in a number of state-level games at the sub-junior level and was a left-handed batsman like Sourav.
