Jaya Ahsan not as Supriya Devi but Anjana Bhowmick?
RBN Web Desk: Director Srijit Mukherji is in the final stages of casting for the big screen adaptation of author Mani Shankar Mukherjee’s novel Chowringhee. He has already locked Abir Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta, Mamata Shankar, and Anjan Dutt in lead roles.
But contrary to earlier reports that Jaya Ahsan has been roped in to play the housekeeper and high society escort Karabi Guha in the film, it has now been learnt, the Bangladeshi actress could be seen as airhostess Sujata Mitra in Srijit’s adaptation.
It may be recalled that Anjana Bhowmick had played Sujata’s role, while Supriya Devi was cast as Karabi, in director Pinaki Mukherjee’s adaptation of the same novel in the 1968 film which is widely considered a cult classic by the Bengali audience.
Should things go according to plan, this will be the first time that Jaya and Prosenjit Chatterjee will be paired on the big screen. Prosenjit will play the iconic Satyasundar (Sata) Bose in the new adaptation.
Jaay Phuriye is Vintage Anjan Dutt
Jaya had earlier worked with Srijit in Rajkahini (2015). She will also be seen in the director’s upcoming film Ek Je Chhilo Raja.
Chowringhee is likely to go on the floors later this year.
