Jamai Raja Lead Pair Divided Over Plot Change
RBN Web Desk: The lead pair of Jamai Raja, Arjun Chakrabarty and Sreema Bhattacharjee, are divided over the recent plot change in the popular Bengali serial. The serial has undergone a major change in its storyline, reportedly over TRP demands.
The plot of Jamai Raja was initially a family drama. It centered around the relationship of Ishan (Arjun) and Nilasha (Sreema) and the opposition of the latter’s mother Basabdatta (Chaiti Ghoshal) to their marriage. The narrative focused on how Ishan tries to win over his dominating mother-in-law.
However, over the past several weeks, Jamai Raja’s plot has become more of a detective story with Ishan solving mysteries involving other families. A recent episode showed how Ishaan rescued Riya, an aspiring dancer, from a fraud choreographer who was involved in a human trafficking racket.

The channel, according to industry sources, deliberately brought in the change to bolster the show’s TRP. It may be recalled that the same channel had aired Goyenda Ginni in 2015-16, where national award winning actress Indrani Haldar played homemaker Parama Mitra, who successfully balanced family responsibilities and her career as a crime buster. Goyenda Ginni was hugely popular with each story limited to one week and the show not focusing on the typical family quarrels that are a mainstay of most serials. The audience expected the show to return for another season, but that didn’t happen because of a fallout between the channel and the production house, sources added.
It seems the plot change in Jamai Raja is a veiled attempt to restore Goyenda Ginni’s storyline where Arjun is now solving crimes.
Arjun recently told the media that he is loving the plot change in Jamai Raja. Any actor, he said, would love to play a detective character.
However, Sreema said, she has no idea of what prompted the channel authorities to change the serial’s storyline. Sreema said she doesn’t support the change.

Basabdatta also is not being much seen these days. Chaiti had breathed life into the largely negative character which was one of the major attractions of the serial. She remained tight-lipped over the change in the serial’s storyline.
