RBN Web Desk: Goyenda Gargi, the fictional amateur detective created by novelist Tapan Bandopadhyay, is back on the small screen from 1 January. Popular TV actress Debaleena Sen has been cast in the title role.

Goyenda Gargi precedes Suchitra Bhattacharya’s Mitin Masi—perhaps the most popular female detective among the present generation of readers—by several years. Unlike Mitin Masi, the series was written sporadically by Bandopadhyay.
Goyenda Gargi debuted on the small screen back in the nineties when Indrani Haldar played the title role. Irshar Sabuj Chokh, the first novel of the series, was adapted for Doordarshan and was telecast as Irsha. The serial became fairly popular. It was, however, stopped after 26 episodes.
Bohe Bish Batas, the second Gargi novel on which the new serial is based, is a prequel to Irshar Sabuj Chokh. Gargi is a university student in the story.
