Court Passes Order, Shrikant Mohta Taken to Hospital

RBN Web Desk: The special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Bhubaneswar today ordered a 14-day jail custody to Shrikant Mohta. The prominent Bengali film producer was taken to the court straight from the city airport. He was accompanied by investigating officers Sujan Sherpa, Bratin Ghosal, and Tathagata Barman.

Mohta was arrested by the CBI in Kolkata yesterday for his alleged involvement in a ₹25 crore fraud in the Rose Valley chit fund scam. Mohta is the cofounder of SVF, the largest film production house in eastern India.

Lawyers appearing on behalf of CBI did not appeal for Mohta’s custody, keeping in mind his health condition. The court then ordered him a jail remand. Mohta was, however, immediately rushed to the jail hospital from the courtroom as he complained of illness.

CBI lawyers later informed the media that the central agency has substantial evidence regarding Mohta’s involvement in the ₹17,000 crore Rose Valley scam.
