The quintessential oomph girl of Bollywood, Parveen Babi had the entire film industry eating out of her hands. She was the first Bollywood actress to appear on the cover of the Time magazine. She worked with all the leading directors of her time and was also one of the highest paid actresses in the late seventies and early eighties. The later years, however, were not kind to her. She developed paranoid schizophrenia and accused everybody from former US President Bill Clinton to Amitabh Bachchan of plotting to kill her. She was found dead on 22 January 2005, only after a resident of the society where she lived, alerted the police that milk and newspapers were left uncollected for more than three days.

This is a story of a wasted career. Shiney Ahuja was among the Bollywood stars who had a promising career in the early 2000s. Thanks to his superb performance in Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003), Shiney was soon on the list of all major directors like Mahesh Bhatt, Anurag Basu, and Priyadarshan. He had several hits to his credit like Gangster (2006), Woh Lamhe (2006), Life in a… Metro (2007), and Bhool Bhulaiya (2007). But film offers dried up overnight when his housemaid accused him of rape in 2009. He was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment by a lower court, though the maid retracted her statement, and said that sex was consensual. She has since been prosecuted for perjury. But the damage was already done and Shiney was last seen in a supporting role in Welcome Back (2015).

9. Lisa Ray

She is one of the most reserved beauties in show business and is certainly not among the league of Bollywood stars per se. Lisa Ray acted in several international films and everything was going great for this Indo-Canadian actress, until she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of cancer. Amidst immediate reactions of shock and denial, Lisa accepted the reality and is a cancer survivor today. She is actively involved in spreading awareness about the disease and how to battle it. Kasoor (2001), Bollywood/Hollyood (2002), and Water (2005) are some of her major films.
