Not Interested in Paan Masala Awards: Manoj Joshi

RBN Web Desk: Having worked in more than 120 films, Manoj Joshi is one of the most recognisable faces in Bollywood. He debuted in Sarfarosh (1999) and has since starred in several successful films like Hungama (2003), Golmaal (2006), Bhool Bhulaiya (2007), Dabangg 2 (2012), and others. From slapstick comedies to more serious roles, this veteran Marathi actor equally straddles both theatre and cinema.

Manoj Joshi won a best supporting actor National Award in 2017 for Marathi film Dashakriya. And now he is the only actor to have been awarded the prestigious Padma Sri in 2018.

Despite all these achievements, Bollywood awards have eluded Manoj Joshi.

The actor recently said in an interview that paan masala awards doesn’t interest him, indicating popular Bollywood award functions that are sponsored by tobacco companies. It makes no difference to him, whether or not he is nominated for these awards, he added.

The Padma Shri is more than what I could have asked for in my entire acting career, Joshi said, adding that he never hired any agency to promote him in Bollywood.

These paan masala awards, Joshi said, recognise stars and not actors. I am rooted in theatre where performance tops over everything else, the actor said.
