7. Christopher Nolan
One of the highest grossing international filmmakers in history, Christopher Nolan recently visited Mumbai and said, “I have had the pleasure of watching Ray’s Pather Panchali recently, which I hadn’t seen before. I think it is one of the best films ever made. It is an extraordinary piece of work.” Nolan is the director of The Dark Knight Trilogy which is one of the most successful film franchises ever.

8. Audrey Hepburn
She was considered a film and fashion icon during her lifetime and acted in some of the leading Hollywood blockbusters like Roman Holiday (1953), My Fair Lady (1964) and the brilliant thriller Wait Until Dark (1967). Audrey Hepburn presented the honorary Academy Award to Ray in 1992, and later said, “One of the greatest directors at last got his due.” Ray was supposed to direct a Hollywood film with her and Marlon Brando in the lead. The project, however, was a nonstarter.

Actor-director Keanu Reeves, is counted among the most successful Hollywood stars, who acted in the hugely popular Matrix franchise. “My only understanding of India was through the Satyajit Ray films I watched in film festival after film festival. They are incredible. That is how I perceive India—real, warm and unaffected,” he had said about the auteur’s films.
