Filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi Dead

RBN Web Desk: Filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi, known for her films on women’s issues, passed away early morning today in Mumbai. She was 64. She was earlier diagnosed with cancer and several leading film personalities like Aamir Khan, Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Salman Khan, Neena Gupta and other had helped her out financially.

Lajmi was known for critically acclaimed powerhouse films like Rudaali, Ek Pal, Chingari, and Daman. She made her debut as an assistant director to veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal.

She recently authored a book on legendary singer and composer Bhupen Hazarika. The book titled ‘Bhupen Hazarika—As I Knew Him’ was launched on 8 September in Mumbai by Benegal. Lajmi, at that time, was in the hospital and could not attend the event. Hazarika was her long-time friend and partner.

Rudaali, often considered a landmark film in socially relevant cinema of India, completes 25 years of its release in 2018.
