Abhimaan, directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, is considered one of the best middle-of-the-road cinema in India. The film, when released, was an average grosser at the box office but over the decades went on to earn a cult status. Music was composed by SD Burman and songs from the film are regularly played even today on television and FM channels.
According to reports published in a national daily, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are likely to reprise the characters played by Amitabh and Jaya respectively in the remake. For a long time Aishwarya and Abhishek wanted to do another film together. Abhimaan seems to be the best vehicle to display their chemistry on screen again, the newspaper quoted a source as having said.
Aishwarya and Abhishek have reportedly been approached by director Anurag Kashyap for a film tentatively titled Gulab Jamun. The film, according to Abhishek, is still in the discussion stage.
