Actress Found Dead under Mysterious Circumstances

RBN Web Desk: Actress Payel Chakraborty who had worked in a number of web-series and did minor roles in Bengali television serials, was founding dead under mysterious circumstances in Siliguri. Her body was found hanging on 4 September night inside a hotel room on Nabin Sen Road, adjacent to Air View crossing, one of the busiest areas of the town. She was 38. Police has sent the body for postmortem. Prima facie evidence suggests suicide.

A staff of the hotel told the media that Payel had checked in that night and went straight to her room. She did not order dinner. The hotel authorities called the police when the actress did not answer the door the next morning despite repeated knocks. Police opened the door to find Payel hanging from the ceiling, the staff said.

According to deputy commissioner of Siliguri Police Commissionerate Gourab Lal, Payel was a resident of Netajinagar in Kolkata, and was recently divorced. The matter is being investigated, and her family has been informed, Lal added.

Payel is survived by a two-year old daughter.

Hotel sources informed that Payel came to the hotel at around 7.30pm on 4 September and informed that she will leave for Gangtok the next morning. Identity papers submitted at the hotel revealed her husband’s name as Sumit Chakraborty. Payel told the front desk that she won’t have dinner that night, and none should disturb her, sources added.

Police, along with the hotel staff, broke open the door next morning and found the actress dead.
