RBN Web Desk: Popular actor Kharaj Mukherjee has been roped in to play 19th century playwright and actor Girish Chandra Ghosh, in a biopic on one of India’s first filmmakers Hiralal Sen. The film, titled Hiralal, will be directed by Arun Roy.
Not many are aware that Hiralal was the first director to make a full-length fiction film called Alibaba and Forty Thieves in 1903. He is also widely credited for making India’s first advertising film.
Prints of all of his films, however, were destroyed in a fire in 1917.
Shankar Chakraborty and Saswata Chatterjee will play two major roles in the biopic. The actor to be cast in the title role is yet to be locked.
Kharaj Mukherjee is expected to make his directorial debut with Oskar later this year.
