Aneek’s Silent Film Travels to Vienna
RBN Web Desk: White, a silent film directed by Aneek Chaudhuri, is all set to be shown at the official section of the REAKTOR Indian Film Festival in Vienna. The festival will be held from 7-10 June. White, earlier, was screened at the Marche du Film at Cannes on 11 May.
White is an anthology film comprising three stories about three women who have survived rape. The film has no dialogues and uses only music and images.
White, according to Aneek, refers to the ray of hope that exists among women even after passing through the darkest phase of their life. It’s almost like a visually challenged person, who manages to see through with all the darkness around, the director said. Each of his protagonists in the film fight back silently. Aneek has stressed more on deadpan cinema, rather than conventional emotions, to portray the situations.
Aneek said that he did not want the film to be limited by a language barrier since his subject is universal. The menace of rape, he says, is spread all over the globe and not just India.
The independent filmmaker had earlier made Streer Potro which was screened at Cannes last year. He plans to send White to other international festivals before releasing it in India.
