RBN Web Desk: Veteran actress Basabi Nandi passed away last night after suffering a massive cardiac arrest. She was 82.
Basabi was one of the leading actresses in the sixties who made her name in Bengali theatre and then went on to make a mark in several films. She was an accomplished singer as well, courtesy her theatre background, and had several published singles to her credit.
Karagaar, Same-Side, and Srimati Bhyanakari were some of her best-known plays.
The thespian made her debut on the silver screen in Jamalaye Jibanta Manush (1958). Directed by Prafulla Chakraborty, the film had Bhanu Banerjee, Chhabi Biswas, Pahari Sanyal, Kamal Mitra, and Tulsi Chakraborty in lead roles. The film was a major hit at the box office. Her performance in Bon Palashir Padabali (1973) is still remembered by the audience. The film, directed by Uttam Kumar, was a blockbuster.
Basabi Nandi acted in several big hits like Baghini (1968), Aami Se O Sakha (1975), and others.
