Kolkata: Shilpi Sangsad, the platform for artistes and directors working in the film and television industry, has organised an Uttam Kumar film festival in the city to commemorate the death anniversary of the matinee idol. The organisation was founded by Uttam, along with Bikash Roy, Jahar Ganguly, and other leading actors in 1968.
The week-long festival will be held at Nandan. It will be inaugurated by West Bengal governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on 24 July. Veteran actress Madhabi Mukherjee, and directors Goutam Ghose and Kamaleshwar Mukherjee are slated to attend the event. Several Uttam Kumar classics will be screened at the festival.
Rituparna Sengupta is the incumbent chairperson of Shilpi Sangsad. She took over after actress Supriya Devi passed away earlier this year.
