RBN Web Desk: A section of TV serial producers are reportedly upset over Prosenjit Chatterjee and Arindam Ganguly’s role in the ongoing strike called by actors in the industry. Prosenjit is the working president and Arindam the general secretary of Artists Forum, the common platform of all actors working in the film and television industry, which has called the strike.
A leading producer, on conditions of anonymity, told the media that Prosenjit and Arindam sent bulk messages to all artistes working in TV serials urging them to stop work until their payment for July is released.
Producer Rana Sarkar said that an individual actor or actress may have payment issues with a production house. They have the right to refuse work in such cases. That doesn’t mean each artiste should be instigated to bring the entire industry to a standstill, he said, adding that their demands have no rationale.
SVF chief Mahendra Soni said, over the years, Bengali TV serials have gained a solid stand and an entire economic cycle revolves around it. The TV content industry is the source of livelihood to a large number of people and many of them are the sole bread-earner of their family. Channels are now fearing a slump in growth because of the strike called by the artistes, he claimed.
