RBN Web Desk: She is the original Sita of Indian television. Deepika Chikhalia, who played that role in the 1986 television serial Ramayan directed by Ramanand Sagar, is all set for a comeback.
Deepika, according to sources, will be seen in a Hindi film tentatively titled Gaalib. The film is based on the life of Galib Guru, who is the son of Afzal Guru. Afzal was executed on 9 February 2013, after being convicted for his involvement in the 13 December Indian Parliament attack. Deepika will play Galib’s mother in the film.
After Ramayan, Deepika Chikhalia was seen in popular television shows like Vikram Aur Betaal, and The Sword of Tipu Sultan. She played supporting roles in some Hindi films like Bhagwaan Dada (1986), Ghar Sansar (1986), Ghar Ka Chiraag (1989) and others. Deepika failed to break into the league of top Bollywood actresses as she was typecast in playing mythological characters on television. She also appeared in the Bengali film Asha O Bhalobasa (1989) opposite Prosenjit Chatterjee which was a box office hit.
Deepika married cosmetics company owner Hemant Topiwala and quit the entertainment industry. She joined her husband’s business and has since been deeply involved in it. She recently appeared on the reality show Chhuta Chheda Season 2 on Colors Gujarati.
