RBN Web Desk: Priyadarshan, who directed the first film in the Hera Pheri franchise, is back on board to direct the third instalment of the series. Hera Pheri released in 2000 and has since attained a cult status in India. The film had Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty in lead roles. It also had Tabu, Gulshan Grover and Kulbhushan Kharbanda in other important roles.
The sequel to Hera Pheri—Phir Hera Pheri—released in 2006. It was directed by Neeraj Vora.
It was earlier reported that the production house has roped in director Indra Kumar to helm the third film of the series, tentatively titled Hera Pheri 3. A source close to the film, however, has revealed that Indra Kumar has now been replaced by Priyadarshan.
The third film, according to sources, will have a time leap. Akshay, Suniel, and Paresh will reprise their roles as Raju, Shyam, and Baburao Ganpatrao Apte respectively. The story will begin from where the second film ended. The basic plot of the third film was written by Neeraj. The actor-director passed away in 2017.
While the three lead actors are keen to return for the third part, Priyadarshan doesn’t want to hurry with the project just for the sake of the Hera Pheri brand, the source disclosed.
