RBN Web Desk: Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee will be awarded an Honorary D. Litt. by Presidency University, Kolkata, for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. Sources informed that the decision in this regard was recently taken at a meeting of the varsity’s governing council. Soumitra was communicated about the decision and he gladly accepted.
In a career spanning more than six decades, Soumitra has worked with all leading directors of Bengal, including Satyajit Ray, Tapan Sinha, Tarun Majumdar, Aparna Sen, Rituparno Ghosh, and others. The three-time National Award winning actor was recently awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur, a component medal of the Légion d’honneur, the highest military and civilian order of merit of France.
The 83-year old actor will be conferred the D. Litt at the convocation of the university to be held in the city on 11 September. PhD scholars of the university will also be handed over their citations in the same event.
