RBN Web Desk: Director Arindam Sil has started planning his new Byomkesh film, which is likely to be based on Magno Mainak. The film will have actors Abir Chatterjee and Rahul Banerjee reprising their roles as Byomkesh Bakshi and Ajit Bandyopadhyay respectively.
Byomkesh Gowtro, the last film to feature the iconic fictional sleuth created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, was a major hit at the box office. The film released during Durga Puja and locked horns with director Srijit Mukherji’s film Ek Je Chhilo Raja. Both films were bankrolled by the same production house and set the cash registers ringing.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a film festival in Hyderabad recently, Arindam admitted that he has plans to adapt Magno Mainak for the big screen. However, everything is at a preliminary stage and nothing concrete has yet emerged, he added.
Earlier there were reports that Arindam will be adapting Durgo Rahaysa for the big screen.
Magno Mainak is an espionage thriller set on the backdrop of the heightened tension between India and Pakistan in the years after the Partition. The story was earlier adapted to a 2009 film by Swapan Ghosal where Subhrajit Mitra played Byomkesh with Rajarshi Mukherjee as Ajit.
