Jaya Ahsan in a Film on Cancer Awareness

RBN Web Desk: Popular Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan is all set to star in a new Bengali film on cancer awareness. The film will be produced and directed by Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy. The director duo is now into the post-production of their upcoming film Haami.

Jaya Ahsan has played major roles in Bengali films from Kolkata, like Aborto (2013), Rajkahini (2015), Eagoler Chokh (2016), and Bishorjon (2017) among others. She played the female lead in Indranil Roy Chowdhury’s critically acclaimed short film Bhalobashar Sahor.

The new film is titled Kantho and is reportedly inspired by the life of Bibhuti Chakraborty, who was a cancer survivor. It tells the story of a person who battles laryngeal cancer and how he overcomes the disease.

Sharing his thoughts, Shiboprosad said that Chakraborty shared the story of his life back in 1999, for a TV programme called Aloye Phera. It was a nonfiction show and Chakraborty’s story was a huge hit with the audience. It inspired many people to battle cancer. The filmmaker had then decided to make a film on Chakraborty.

The story of Kantho, is about the life of a radio jockey (RJ), who is a cancer survivor. The asset of RJs is their voice, Shiboporsad said, adding that the film will show how the person fights the life-threatening ailment and returns to work.
