RBN Web Desk: Girija-A Life Time in Music, a documentary-biopic on the late classical vocalist Girija Devi, has won the national award for the best arts/cultural film at the 65th National Film Awards announced in New Delhi today.
The film is directed by her disciples Samanwaya Sarkar and Debapriya Adhikary.
Girija-A Life Time in Music, uses rare concert footage and interviews with the singer. The film was made in 2014 and provides an intimate encounter with the thumri legend.
Girija Devi, a vocalist from the Seniya and Banaras gharanas, was conferred the Padma Vibhushan, India’s third highest civilian award, in 2016. She also won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2010 and the Padma Bhushan in 1989.
