RBN Web Desk: In another first for any Bengali film, Kamaleshwar Mukherjee-directed Amazon Obhijaan, is all set to have a mainstream release across eight cities in the UK. The film, which opened on 22 December and is running in packed theaters in West Bengal, has reportedly been the biggest blockbuster in Bengali cinema.
According to sources, the film’s gross collection after the first week was more than ₹11 crore. It’s the highest ever first week collection for any Bengali film.
Amazon Obhijaan is the sequel to Kamaleshwar’s 2013 film Chander Pahar. Both films have been produced by SVF.
The film will release across the Cineworld chain in UK on 12 January at Feltham, Wood Green, Bradford, Leeds, and Ilford. Other theatres include Safari Cinema, Harrow, and Odeon Trafford Centre, Manchester. Birmingham will be added in the second week.
Amazon Obhijaan tells the story of Shankar, an explorer-adventurer from early 20th century Bengal, who joins fortune-hunter Marco Florian and his daughter Anna to hunt the mythical South American town El Dorado.
Bengal superstar Dev reprises his role as Shankar in the film.
If the 8 January London press show of the film is anything to go by, Amazaon Obhijaan is likely to be sold out in the UK theatres.
Candid Communication is marketing and distributing the film in UK.
