RBN Web Desk: Perhaps for the first time ever in India, or at least in West Bengal, a foreign actor will campaign for one of the candidates in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed is all set to ask for votes on behalf of Trinamool Congress candidate Kanaia Lal Agarwal who is contesting from Raiganj.
Ferdous is a hugely popular actor in both Bangladesh and West Bengal. He has worked with all leading actresses from the state, including Rituparna Sengupta, Rachana Banerjee, and others.
Agarwal has already lined up several actors from the Bengali film industry to rally support behind him. Hindi film actor Aftab Shivdasani also campaigned for the Raiganj TMC candidate recently.
The Raiganj seat, according to political observers, will be a prestige battle this time with all leading political parties having fielded heavyweight candidates. Agarwal will be testing his luck against Mohammed Selim of CPI (M) and Congress candidate Deepa Dasmunsi.
Raiganj has traditionally been a Congress stronghold since the first general election in 1952. Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi won the seat in 1999 and 2004, followed by his wife Deepa in 2009. Selim bagged the seat in the 2014 election and was the only prominent Left leader from West Bengal in the 16th Lok Sabha.
Raiganj goes to polls on 18 April.
