RBN Web Desk: National Award winning filmmaker Sudhir Mishra, is all set to release his new film Daas Dev on 9 March. The film is a modern-day adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s popular novel Devdas with a major twist in the end. Daas Dev has Aditi Rao Hydari, Rahul Bhat, and Richa Chadha in the three pivotal roles. The film was initially supposed to release on 16 February.
Daas Dev also marks the return of producer-diretor Anurag Kahsyap in front of the camera. Actors Saurabh Shukla and Vipin Sharma play major roles in the film.
Set in the rural heartlands of Uttar Pradesh, Daas Dev is a love story set on the backdrop of caste politics in the state. The film talks about love and greed and how personal equations change on the face of lust for power.
Mishra said that he took the three central characters from Chattopadhyay’s novel—Paro, Devdas, and Chandramukhi—and wove the plot of the William Shakespeare’s Hamlet into it. With the Indian political situation thrown in, the film has become a kind of reverse journey for Devdas, he added.
Aditi Rao Hydari plays Chandramukhi in the film and her character is named Chandni. She will be seen as a fiercely independent and assertive woman who is unapologetic and lives life on her own terms.
