Kolkata: The digitally restored high-definition (HD) prints of auteur Satyajit Ray’s Apu Trilogy will be shown on the big screen for the first time in the city. The event is being organised as part of the 2018 Kolkata International Film Festival.
All three films of the trilogy—Pather Panchali (1955), Aparajito (1956), and Apur Sansar (1959)—will be screened at the festival on 11 November.
The New York-based Criterion Collection, a subsidiary of Janus Films, has restored a number of Ray classics that include the Apu Trilogy. Some of these films are available on video while others have not been released in public.
Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, renowned film preservationist, will present the trilogy before the audience.
