RBN Web Desk: The ministry of human resource development has allotted ₹8.82 crore for bronze casting of the sculptures made by Ramkinkar Baij inside the Visva Bharati University campus in Shantiniketan. Restoration of the sculptures already started earlier this year.
Visva Bharati vice-chancellor Sabujkali Sen told the media today that they had appealed to the government for the funds. Four sculptures of the legendary artist have been selected as the pilot project for the bronze casting work, she said, adding that more will be added later. Once the casting is complete, restoration work of the sculptures will become easier, she said.
Ramkinkar is considered one of the pioneers in modern Indian sculpting and a key artist in the contextual modernist art movement in the country. He was one of the most renowned sculptors at home and abroad.
