Kolkata: Bird of Dusk, billed as the first exhaustive docu-feature film on Rituparno Ghosh, is all set for a theatrical release in the city. Rituparno, one of the most prominent filmmakers in India, died on 30 May, 2013. He was 49.
Bird of Dusk, directed by Sangeeta Datta, was shown at the Kolkata International Film Festival in 2017. It was a rough cut and was exhibited on the last day of the festival. The film was still at the work-in-progress stage at that time and was longer in duration.
The trailer of the film was launched on 25 April last year and the US premiere was held at New York in May.
The film has interviews with actors and actresses who have worked closely with Rituparno, including Aparna Sen, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Konkona Sen Sharma, Soumitra Chatterjee, Nandita Das, Sharmila Tagore, Arjun Rampal, and others.
Sangeeta had earlier directed Life Goes on in 2009 which had Sharmila, Om Puri, Girish Karnad, and Soha Ali Khan in major roles.
The city premiere of Bird of Dusk will be held at Nandan on 10 January with regular shows from the following day.
